Merry Christmas and Have a Profitable New Year

As I sit here writing a Holiday post, I have to think back on the year and be thankful for everything I have been blessed with. My family is awesome. My health is pretty good all things considered. I have a wonderful house to live in and a view of the Sierra Nevada mountains that is breath-taking. Financially things are good – the bills are paid and we have a great Christmas planned.

Looking ahead to 2011, there are some definite focus items. I have recently started promoting internet marketing products and have had pretty good success with the first 2 products I promoted. I plan for this to be a focus for our business in 2011 and have already picked out a product called the Magic Bullet System to promote in early 2011.

Since I talked about the “typical” financial New Year’s resolution, I should probably cover the physical one as well. I am going to start the year with an intense focus on health to include both exercise and diet. I hope to be able to create some momentum and really have a healthy and successful 2011.

Danger Lurks in the California Mountains

I have lived in California for just over 6 months now.  I have lived at the 4 corners of the US now from the Canadian Border to the Gulf Cost and the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.  California has shown itself to be very diverse and have elements of area I have previously lived.  The one unique thing is the diversity of potentiall deadly animals.

The latest in the line if deadly animals to visit our house is a rattlesnake.  There was one in my garage Friday.  I guess it moved into the garage for a little warmth.  Fortunately, I didn't get bit.  We have also had tarantulas, black widows, and scorpions in the house or in the driveway.  My personal favorate was the bobcat that sat just outside the screen door watching my wife and kids do school work on the couch.

There are also bears, coyotes, and mountain lions close by, but so far none of them have visited our house.  Gotta love the variety of dangerous animals.  Just have to keep small children inside the house . . . lol

California Winter Wonderland

Thanksgiving is in a couple weeks and I am thouroughly enjoying this time of year.  I love the fall.  The nice cold evenings.  The chill in the morning when you go outside.  I have so many sweatshirts and it is so good to be able to wear them.

When you exercise in the cold, it is important you dress warmly.  I like to wear plenty of warm clothes to make sure I sweat even if it is freezing outside.  This helps get rid of the toxins in my body.  The other thing I like to do is keep my mouth covered so I don't breath in too much cold air and start coughing.

This winter, make sure you stay warm while exercising and make sure to burn off some of those calories you will be eating ath Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years.

The Halloween Workout

Last night when I went out with the kids, I never thought I was in for a workout.  2 hours later, I was wore out and ready for bed.

My neighborhood is full of hills so walking is always a workout.  In years past, trick or treating ended quickly, but as my kids get older, they have more stamina.  We did 2 hours last night.  Wow!

On top of the walking, we took my dog.  He isn't big, but carrying him around for an hour and a half was a workout too.  He was good for the first half hour or so walking, but after that, we carried him.  By the end of the night, my arms were burning from the extra weight.

Well, I'm glad I was able to get some exercise in while gathering sugary snacks that will help ruin my diet . . . lol

Heard of a New Supplement

As you have probably guessed, I am all about health and fitness (although that doesn't necessarily mean I live it every day).  One of the things I do on a regular basis is search the world wide web for new fitness trends and supplements.  I have researched (and tried) many different things from creatine to protein powders to maqui berries (the latest superfood to be turned into supplements).  The one thing I have decided on is that there is no "one single solution" to your health and fitness needs.

The one thing most people do agree on is that to be truly healthy, you need a combination of things.  First, you need a healthy diet because without proper nutrition, your body just can't function day in and day out.  Second, you need lots of water to keep your cells hydrated and help you clean out toxins.  Third, you have to exercise and make sure your muslce are strong.  Lastly, you need to be mentally stable to ensure your body isn't polluted with the toxins caused by stress and depression.

Now I know this seems like common sense, but when you analyze how you live compared to these simple truths, I bet you fall short in at least one area (I myself fall short in 2 or 3 of them).  Don't stress out about it though.  Just decide to do better tomorrow.  You won't be perfect, but as long as you are better, you will make progress.

How to Have a Healthy Weekend

It is Sunday and I am getting ready to end the weekend by going to bed.  Before I do, I want to write a quick post about how to have a healthy weekend.  I can't say that this was exactly my weekend, but I did some elements of it and know the other ones are where I need to improve.  Either way, the weekend is very important to living a healthy life and especially losing some weight because you can wipe out an entire week of being healthy by being unhealthy on the weekends.

There are several elements to having a healthy weekend.  The first is to make sure you drink lots of water.  Try to have more water than soda or coffee - your body will thank you.  Second, make sure you take your normal vitamins and supplements.  Just because it is the weekend, it doesn't mean you should ignore what you do to be healthy Monday through Friday.  Personally, I like acai berry for men supplements.  Lastly, try to get some physical exercise.  If you are going to be out shopping, park further away from the buildings so you do some more walking.  If you are at the mall, make a couple extra circuits.  If you are outside, do some hiking.  Just try to be active so you can burn off some of those extra calories.

These simple tips can help you keep improving your health on the weekend instead of taking a step backwards.

My Favorite Health Smoothie

Just wanted to leave a quick post with a recipe for a fruit smoothie that I drink a lot of.  Before I give you the ingredients, I want to talk about how you can make smoothies.  One option is a traditional blender.  This is great if you are making smoothies for more than one person because you can make it big.  The downside is it is big if you only want to make a single serving.  A twist on the blender is a smoothie maker that has a spout on the front.  I have used these and think they are more trouble than they are worth because the spout tends to clog up and it is one more thing that you have to clean.  The last method which I have used and use most often today is a mini blender.  I like the bullet.  Basically it allows you to make single servings and clean up quickly.

Ok, now lets talk about the smoothie.

Start with frozen fruit.  I like strawberries, peaches, and raspberries, but almost anything will work.  Put some of this frozen fruit in the blending unit.  Add liquid to cover up the fruit.  I like white grape juice because it isn't too sweet or strong tasting so the taste of the fruit comes through.  You can use water, but it waters down the taste.  If you want a boost, you can add something like acai berry powder or protein powder to make the smoothie healthier.

Whatever you choose, go make a smoothie and feel good about having something tastey!

New Favorite Restaurant

Before I tell you what my new favorite restaurant is, I need to let you know it is not healthy in any way shape or for.  In fact, it is probably so far on the other end that it is one of the most unhealthy places you could eat, but man was it good.  They are known for their cheese cakes (one of the most unhealthy dishes you can get).  Before I reveal my new favorite place to stuff my face, here is what we had at the table.

My son tired the Kobe Burger.  I don't know exactly what it is, but I know it is some sort of special beef.  I think they massage the cows (seriously, I'm not making this up).  We all had a bite and it was amazing.  My wife got the fish and chips.  We heard they had the best fish and chips and they were definitely good.  I had bbq salmon.  That was almost healthy, but it came with fried onions and I know there is lots of sugar in the bbq sauce.  My daughter had mini burgers and it was good too (not as good as the Kobe Burger though).  Everybody also had fries.  Throw in the deserts and I am sure we were all pushing 2000 calories but it was definitely good.

OK, enough suspense.  My new favorite place to pig out is . . . The Cheesecake Factory.  If you have never been there, check it out.  When you are done, make sure you plan a long cardio workout because you will need to burn some of those excess calories!

Financial Health from the California Mountains

I live in California now and I have to say it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  I can go out on the back deck and excercise on the elliptical looking out into the mountains.  I can see birds circling overhead.  Deer, bobcats, and other wildlife are lible to stop by and watch.  There are so many wonderful aspects to where I am it is hard to think why everybody doesn't want to live this way.

One of the reasons California is unpopular is the tax system and cost of certain necessities.  It can be rediculously expensive at times.  Gas prices are higher than almost anywhere I have ever been.  On top of that, if you want to pay with a debit or credit card, you have to pay extra.  Unfortunately, it doesn't end there.  My electricity bill is so expensive.  The concept of cheap electricity doesn't exist in California.  There is a teired system so the more you use, the more you pay.  I have a 3 bedroom house and don't do anything crazy and I hit the highest teir every month which costs over 30 cents a kilowat hour.  Compare that to many areas in the midwest that are payin 6 cents or so and you can see how fast the cost of electricity can destroy your budget.  The costs don't stop there.  I just paid for new license plates and I don't even want to start talking about that again.

Fortunately, there are so many good things about California, I can live with the bad.  I just wish it didn't cost so much to live here.  Well, at least I have my health!

Exercising Hurts So Good

Wow, I just had a heck of a leg and butt workout.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but I live in the mountains and just walking down from our house on top of the hill and back up is one heck of a workout.  I love it.

The good news is that I have reached the point where I can appreciate the discomfort from a good workout knowing it is really good for me.  Take that to heart and appreciate the discomfort that a good workout produces.  It is kinda like taking your medicine.  It tastes so bad, but you know it is good for you and your body will thank you for it later.

Go out and put some pain back in your life.

When you want to lose excess body fat, finding the appropriate diet supplement can be an important part of your journey.  There will be many choices along the way, but the safest thing to do is stick with a natural health supplement and avoid potentially dangerous, lab created diet supplements.

When you look at the price and the potential side effects of lab created diet pills, it seem silly to choose those over a natural weight loss supplement created by God.  You have to make the choice for yourself, but I am going tot choose the natural supplement every time.

Benefits of Morning Exercise

You already know that you should exercise, but do you know when is the best time to exercise?  There are a lot of opinions, but there are some very good reasons to exercise at a specific time of day.

One school of thought is to exercise after a hard day of work.  It gives you a way to work of the stress of the day and helps you relax.  This is a good idea if you need a way to relax, but it isn't the best time for most people.

Another idea is to exercise during your lunch breat (if you are able).  This can be a good way to recharge for the second half of your day, but again, this isn't what I would say is the best time.

For most people, the best time of day to exercise is in the morning.  I know it can be hard to make yourself wake up earlier so you can exercise, but if you are able to do this, there are a lot of benefits.  To start with, it is a great way to get your blood flowing and clear your head for the day to come.  Another thing it does is get your body started burning calories - it is kinda like jumpstarting your metabolism for the day.  If you exercise before you eat, it also forces your body to burn fat because there aren't any sugar reserves from your meal to use as energy.

All in all, if you exercise regularly, it is a good thing regardless of when you do it.  However, if you are going to do it in the morning, you may get more benefits.

If you are trying to lose weight, there is a good chance that you have at least thought about diet pills.  With all the advertisements on TV, in magazines, and on the internet, it would be hard not to have seen something selling weight loss supplements.  When it comes down to it, you really have 2 main choices:  all natural diet pills or lab created diet pills.

3.  They support your body.  Most natural weight loss supplements help you lose weight by supporting your bodies natural functions.  Many lab created supplements try to alter the way your body works.  I don't know about you, but I think my body knows best and don't want a pill changing the way it naturally behaves.

Weight Loss Tips

Losing weight is one of the most searched topics on the internet around the world. Below are a few simple tips that can help you lose some weight regardless of where you currently are.

The average person drinks soda, coffee, tea, and other high calorie drinks on a daily basis. One way to ease into your weight loss campaign is to start eliminating those drinks and replacing them with water. The amount of calories you eliminate by drinking water instead of soda can easily help you lose 2 or 3 pounds a month if you do nothing else.

Water can also help you eat less. Not drinking enough water can actually lead to you eating more because dehydration is often confused by the body for hunger. Another way water can help you eat less is to have a big glass of water right before a meal. It will help you feel full faster and help you eat less. On top of that, having plenty of water in your system helps your body get rid of toxins which will help you feel better.

Most people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables. If you make an effort to have one vegetable with each meal and have at least one fruit snack instead of a junk food snack each day, you will naturally lower the number of calories you eat and still feel full and satisfied. You can still have a satisfied meal, just start it with a nice salad. Now let’s talk about exercise. Even if you are doing a lot of exercises, chances are you can either do more of it or do more effective exercises. Here are a couple ideas for you to consider.

If you do no exercise at all, the first step is to get started. Don’t try to run a marathon or start doing wind sprints. Start slow. Walking is a great way to get started. If you can do it in the morning, it is a great way to get your blood flowing and start the day. If you want to walk in the evenings it is a great way to unwind after a busy day. If you are already walking or running, you can probably increase the intensity and get more out of your workout. One great way to do this is to do mixed intensity training. For example, start out walking for a couple minutes to get warmed up. Then jog at a slow pace for a minute. Follow that with a fast job for one minute. Finish off the interval with one minute or running as fast as you can. Once you peak, start back over with the slow jog (or walk). What happens is that you get your heart racing when you run fast then you catch your breath by going slower, but your heart keeps racing. This is almost like running fast the whole time, but you are able to catch your breath. This mixed intensity exercise is very effective at burning fat and improving your cardiovascular health.

This is just a few ideas for you. The key is to do something. Weight loss is a simple thing. You have to either burn more calories or eat less calories to lose weight. The more of one or both that you do the better the results will be. A few small changes are often easier to make than one big change and give you better results. Don’t stress out over trying to be perfect, just focus on being better. If you do that, you should get great results.

Whenever you are working out, there is a chance for injury.  Even if you don't injure yourself, working out creates sore muscles.  You need to prepare for the possibility that you will have pain in your life.

Weekend health woes

The weekend is here . . . wooo hooo!  I did so well during the week, but today the efforts to eat health took a big step backwards.  Has anybody else noticed how hard it is to eat well and be healthy when there is little or no structure.  During the week, I get up at the same time, eat the same time, go to work at the same time, and come home at the same time.  On the weekends, anything goes.  This usually means I am doing something until I get to the point of starvation then eat whatever is at hand - not good.

One of the best things you can do do try to keep your diet regular on the weekends is to have a plan.  Even if you don't have to get up at a specific time to get ready for work, do it anyways.  This will help you start your daily routine.  Assuming this daily routine is healthy, you can start having good weekends on your diet as well.

I am starting my third day of healthy eating and living.  The weekend went fairly well, but left me wondering "why does food that is good for you taste so bad?"  Seriosly - I just had a breakfast of water soaked raw almonds.  I know they are good for me and all, but why can't something that is good for me taste better.

One of the reasons healthy food doesn't taste as good is the sugar.  Like it or not, sugar tastes good.  And so does fat.  What makes it worse is that our normal diets of processed foods that are high in sugar and fat can actually desensitize our taste buds so naturally sweet things like berries don't taste as good because they just can't compete with processed sugars on the sweetness scale.  As the next few days and weeks go by, I know that my taste buds will adapt and healthy things will start tasting better.  Until then, I will just keep moving ahead with my bland tasting health food.

Somehow, I feel just a little bit better about health food knowing it will get better.  I just wish the transformation could be faster.  Even with more sensitive taste buds, I'm not sure raw almonds are ever going to taste all that good though . . . I guess I just have to suck it up and do what's best for my body.

When in Rome . . . run away screaming!

I just watched "When in Rome".  The movie looked really good when I saw the preview, but as with most movies, it didn't live up to the expectations.  It just seems that too often all of the good scenes and funny lines are used in the previews and the rest of the movie falls woefully short of expectations.

Genetics Test Helps Predict Weight-Loss Success, Study Says - WSJ.com

If  you have ever tried a tried and true diet only to get no results, you know it can be extremely frustrating to follow a diet that seems to work for everybody else, but not you.  Well, there is good news.  It may not be your fault.  Research is showing that certain people may have a genetic predisposition to certain types of diets.

In a study I read about at WSJ.com, a group of women were studied while on a low carb diet.  The women that had a genetic predisposition to this type of diet lost a whole lot of weight more than those without this particular genetic trait.

I wanted to take a minute today and share an article I saw about eating a healthy Mediterranean diet.  As you probably know, heart disease is a problem that is not going away and in many ways is directly related to your personal health.  If you are healthy, you probably won’t have as much to worry about.
